Piano Impromptu No. 1 (2006) was written for the WWU Piano Area Composition Competition. As one of the winning pieces, it was performed at the annual Piano Area Recital. The theme is introduced in a barebones fashion and then developed in an improvisatory form, at times only alluding to the initial melody or selections from it. The moods of this piece swing wildly, from dark and foreboding to light and playful. This is representative of a stream of consciousness style, drifting from one idea to the next, while maintaining the original musical thought. Performer: Christopher Davis, piano
