Guitar Suite for Esmeralda (2006) is a collection of short diverse movements, which maintain unity through the consistent use of organic form and common pitch centers, namely E and A, which are inherent to the tuning of the guitar. The interludes provide a sense of symmetry to the piece as each interlude is a mirror image of the other. This suite is dedicated to the guitar of the composer, and as such highlights some of the subtle peculiarities of that instrument in addition to those common to all classical guitars. Influences can be heard from several genres, including serialism (both twelve-tone and smaller sets), minimalism, and rock and roll. Performer: William Coogan, classical guitar
