5 Miniatures (2009) was completed in December of 2009 and premiered Friday, April 23rd in the IU Recital Hall with James Reeves as conductor. This collection of short movements is united only by instrumentation and the classical influence of alternating fast and slow movements. The first movement is driven by a perpetual run of sixteenth notes, the second focuses on a melodic combination of flute and violin, and the third features two dueling waltzes at different tempi. The penultimate movement is slow and focuses on sonority and timbre and the piece finishes with a folk-influenced finale.
